The grade 8 Social Studies curriculum examines the history of Canada from the beginning of the 20th century to present day. The idea of identity is key to each of the following themes of study this year:
Textbook: L’Identité canadienne
Materials: binder, duo tang, pen, French/English dictionary, compass set
Classwork: This is a very important part of the learning process and must be completed.
Evaluation: A variety of evaluation methods are used to assess your progress: class and homework, binder checks, quizzes, tests, participation, projects, presentations, self-evaluation and peer evaluation. These elements are categorized into the following categories on the Report Cards:

- Citizenship and identity
- An evolving identity
- To develop our knowledge of the culture, politics, economy, societies and the people who live here;
- To examine how our lives are interrelated with both those within the region and those who live beyond;
- To discover how perspectives like physical setting, culture, economics, technology and interdependence affect each other and so shape our lives;
- To increase thinking, reading and communication skills as used in social studies;
- To help students grow in respect for others, particularly with regard to the ideals of human rights, multiculturalism and citizenship.
